More About the Gippsland Youth Commitment

 

The Gippsland Youth Commitment is working to improve education and training opportunities for our young people by building a culture of ‘collective responsibility’and ‘partnership’ across Gippsland.

 

Partners from across business, industry, community and government have responded to the call for collective responsibility by;

  • Making commitments to action
  • Working together with other partners
  • Supporting the goals and principles of the GYC

 

GOALS

  • All young people have the skills, capacity and confidence to reach their full potential and be valued members of community
  • Communities and business working together with education providers to support young people
  • to reach their full potential

 

OBJECTIVES

Objectives have been developed against each of the five focus areas

 

FOCUS AREAS

Five Focus areas have been identified and each area has a group which develops regional strategic approaches

  • Improving participation in Mathematics and Science
  • Improving participation in Tertiary Education
  • Improved Koorie participation in Education
  • Improving participation  in skills training, particularly in skill shortage areas
  • Improving Transition and Re-engagement of Young People

REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Gippsland Youth commitment is endorsed by the Gippsland Regional Management Forumas a key regional strategy to advance regional development

 

PRINCIPALS

GYC partners have agreed to the following principles

 

Leadership, innovation and strategic planning

We will demonstrate a commitment to the GYC to ensure that young people remain connected to education, training and employment

Mutual respect, privacy and confidentiality

We acknowledge that the success of the GYC is based on mutual respect, trust and understanding. This provides the basis for positive interpersonal relationships which create a healthy environment where individuals can live and work responsibly and cooperatively.

Collaboration

We will seek to work collaboratively to achieve better outcomes for young people.

Personalised Learning

We will support and direct service delivery to meet the holistic needs of young people including their learning and training, health, well-being, social and transition needs

Building organisational capacity to support young people

We will endeavour to develop suitable strategies which provide appropriate access to and support for education and training programs for young people. 

Continual improvement

The work of the GYC is underpinned by four pillars

 

Working Together

Local, State and Australian Governments, industry, business, education providers and community organisations working collaboratively to improve the planning and delivery of education and training that advances both individual and regional development

Meaningful Experiences

Inclusive provision arrangements to engage young people in learning to Year 12 or its equivalent.

Supporting Achievement

All young people provided with appropriate support that enables them to complete Year 12 or its equivalent.

Connecting to opportunities
